The Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Art Exhibitions and Collections Department oversees the display and preservation of more than 7,000 artworks. A large part of those items is exhibited all over the BA reading area, corridors and halls. The Bibliotheca Alexandrina treasures its special art collection that art lovers and professionals can enjoy viewing throughout different public spaces of the BA premises.
Aiming to disseminate and promote the understanding and appreciation of visual arts among the public, specialized art exhibitions were created inside the BA. Fourteen permanent exhibitions covering different fields of art; from painting, to ceramic, sculpture, calligraphy, heritage, set design, costume design, cinematography, art printing and artist’s book; form an essential part of the BA visitors’ official tour.
The permanent art exhibitions enrich the BA experience for visitors through the interaction with BA curators who respond to their inquiries about artworks and the collections.
For more than twenty years since its opening, the BA is still developing its art collection by accepting donations from eminent and emerging Egyptian and international contemporary visual artists; and through artworks produced in various art workshops and projects organized by the Art Exhibitions and Collections Department.
