The articles cover the diverse architecture of mosques in the Islamic world, and chronicle the development of their architectural components such as domes, minarets, and niches. The issue also includes artistic studies of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, and studies on the architectural development of mosques in Samarra, Sanaa, Kairouan, Fes, Mosul, Alexandria, and Saudi Arabia, in addition to a special review of the mosques of Mauritania. The architecture of mosques and schools, featured in the “Islamic Attractions and Arab Antiquities in Egypt and Moez Cairo” encyclopedia, is also highlighted in this issue.
