The Second International Seminar on Arabic and Islamic Inscriptions

The BA Writing and Scripts Center and the Center for Islamic Civilization Studies, in cooperation with the Institut français d'archéologie orientale (IFAO) and the Faculty of Archeology at Ain Shams University, are organizing the Second International Seminar on Arabic and Islamic Inscriptions, on 15 and 16 April 2025.

The seminar is entitled "Orientalists and the Origin of Arabic Inscriptions from the 19th Century until the Beginning of the 20th Century". The first day will be held at the Institut français d'archéologie orientale in El-Mounira, while the second day will be devoted to a field visit in Cairo.

The seminar highlights the efforts of European scholars and orientalists in the study of Arabic and Islamic inscriptions through 14 papers presented by 14 researchers from Egypt, France, Switzerland, Morocco, and Iraq.

A special session entitled "Modern Projects for Documenting Arab and Islamic Inscriptions" will take place as part of the seminar. An exhibition entitled "The Workmanship of Inscriptions: Byssus and Chisels - The Special Collection of the Sufizadeh Family” will also be held on the sidelines of the seminar.
