Alexandria — The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is hosting the Second Alexandria International Model United Nations (AIMUN) 2006, 14 -18 March. The AIMUN is organised by Sustainable Development Association (SDA) and YES Egypt which is a youth led Egyptian NGO leading the YES – Egypt Network in Egypt. The event is under the auspices of the governor of Alexandria, BA and in cooperation with the Dialogue Forum at BA.
Mr. Abdallah Sobeih, Head of the program, announced that the AIMUN is an innovative educational tool that allows young people to gain useful skills for the future, as well as it also gives them a voice, allowing their optimism and energy to come through and address some of the most pressing issues of the modern era.
Mr. Sobeih added that the conference this year will comprise two councils which are the United Nations Security Council and the High Level Group for Alliance of Civilisations. During the meetings, the students will discuss how to resolve issues of distrust, fear, and misunderstanding between Islamic and Western societies. Each group, after intense negotiation, will come to a final resolution, which, we hope, will result in the beginnings of a paradigm of mutual respect between civilizations here in Alexandria and beyond.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is inviting all the interested groups such as researchers, university professors, and students to attend and participate in the closing ceremony of the conference. The ceremony will take place on 18 March, at the BA Conference Center, 6:30 pm.
