Alexandria,
2nd December—In a first incident of cooperation between the
Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Zayed Heritage Institute (UAE), the Calligraphy
Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina published a thousand captions of Arabic
calligraphic fonts in digitized form.
In
a statement Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said
that publishing the CD comes as “a demonstration of the great importance given
to Arabic calligraphy in the Library”. The CD allows the user to be acquainted
with the use of different Arabic fonts. Arabic scripts and calligraphic styles
are unique in the way that each style is considered an individual art.
Dr.
Serageldin also added that a scientific committee, headed by Prof. Ola Al Ogeizy,
Dean of Faculty of Archeology, Cairo University, has been formed to supervise
the launching of the first Multi- lingual CD for teaching the Ancient Egyptian
language. The CD will demonstrate the development of the symbols of the Ancient
Egyptian language from the pre-dynastic era to the Hieroglyphic, Heratic and on
to the Demotic language.
Presently, the Calligraphy Center is preparing to
launch another CD containing the symbols and alphabets of both ancient and
modern civilizations from all over the world.
