The BA is hosting the 20th National Conference, organized by the Egyptian Library Association, from 17 to 19 July 2017. The conference will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center (BACC), Small Theater, Alexandria, Egypt.
The conference, entitled “Reviving Engineering Administration in Libraries, Information Centers and Archives”, aims to reinforce the latest administrative concepts related to the librarianship field and to advocate for supporting adopting such concepts in order to cope with the international trends, to achieve their positive effect on development, and to achieve performance quality to assure high-standard outputs.
The conference features a number of eminent keynote speakers. It is highly attended by library and information science (LIS) professionals and academics, in addition to prominent participants from different Arab countries, who present their experiences, papers, researches, and initiatives in the various conference-related scopes.
The BA, represented by the Arabic Library Standards (ALS), will participate in the conference to exhibit the first full translation of MARC 21 Formats for Bibliographic Data in Arabic and present its other projects and products.
MARC 21 Formats for Bibliographic Data in Arabic includes the latest updates—Update 19, with huge selections from Updates 20 and 21—adopting the original arrangement and typography of the English MARC 21. The translation is adapted to meet Arab cataloging rules, provided with examples emphasizing Arab practices. It also covers new cataloging standards, such as Resource Description and Access (RDA).
It is worth mentioning that the formats presented in Marc 21 are the standards through which bibliographic information is documented in a machine-readable form. This is considered one of the most efficient systems in data creation and sharing. Hence, the Arabic translation benefits Arab catalogers by providing them with international standards in their mother tongue.
