The BA Center for Islamic Civilization Studies, in cooperation with the “Memory of Arabs” project, has released the seventh issue of The Memory of Arabs magazine, which comes as a continuation of the sixth issue that was devoted to the topic: “Cairo: the Crossroads of Cultures and Civilizations, from its inception to the end of the Mamluk era”. This release coincides with ICESCO's selection of Cairo as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2022, reflecting part of the cultural events organized by the BA.
This issue includes peer-reviewed research that examines the political and social activities of the Royal Yard at Cairo Citadel in the era of the Circassian Mamluk sultans, social life in Cairo in the Mamluk era through public baths (ḥammāms) at markets, and the Mihrabs of the facilities of Sultan Faraj bin Barqouq in Cairo. It also explores the cultural importance of Cairo’s pools in the Mamluk era, provides a descriptive and analytical study of engaged and compiled columns in the religious buildings of Cairo during the Circassian Mamluk era, and sheds light on the representation of Islamic architecture at Vienna World’s Fair.
