Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Egypt, in the presence of Ms. Chitose Noguchi, Resident Representative of UNDP Egypt; and Dr. Nizar Sami, Director of Innovation and Inclusive Growth Projects.

The signing ceremony was attended by a high-level delegation from the UNDP Egypt bureau, Ms. Dina Youssef, Head of the BA Library Sector, representatives of the sector, and senior library officials.

Dr. Ahmed Zayed said that the cooperation agreement between the Library and the United Nations Development Program in Egypt reflects the joint pursuit of sustainable development goals, most notably providing access to education and innovation and empowering youth, in addition to the shared interest in digital transformation and skills and enabling youth to acquire the knowledge required in the labor market.

For her part, Ms. Chitose Noguchi, UNDP Resident Representative, said that the BA is not merely a library but a beacon of science and knowledge, highlighting her deep admiration for the Library's role in communicating with different segments of society, especially those with special needs, and providing them with educational and knowledge services for a better future. She also praised the BA’s role in preserving and digitizing historical and rare manuscripts.

It is worth noting that the cooperation between the two parties is based on a number of key areas, including supporting digital transformation, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and raising awareness of sustainable development goals. The cooperation also seeks to provide assistive technologies to support people with special needs, in addition to organizing and hosting joint events, workshops, and conferences on economic development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth empowerment.
