TWAS Executive Director Visits the BA

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, welcomed yesterday Dr. Marcelo Knobel, Executive Director of the World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS), which works to promote science and engineering for sustainable prosperity in developing countries. This visit comes as part of joint efforts between the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and TWAS to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions as strategic partners in developing and disseminating knowledge, promoting science, and supporting scientific research.
The meeting was attended by Ms. Heba El-Rafey, Acting Head of the External Relations and Media Sector; Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, Head of the Academic Research Sector; Eng. Israa El-Fayoumi, Acting Head of the Center for Special Studies and Programs’ Researchers’ Support and Development Unit; and Ms. Eman Wahdan, Acting Head of the Public Relations Department.
Through the Center for Special Studies and Programs, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has been hosting the World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in Developing Countries’ Arab Regional Partner (TWAS-AREP) since 2005, with the aim of promoting scientific capacities and excellence among Arab scientists, especially young researchers in the Arab region.
Dr. Marcelo Knobel started his visit with a comprehensive tour of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, followed by a meeting with Dr. Marwa El-Wakil, Head of the Academic Research Sector, and the team of the Center for Special Studies and Programs and TWAS-AREP.
