“Thinking the Mediterranean” is a cycle of seven lectures which will start in May 2006 and continue till September 2007 organized by the Alexandrian and Mediterranean Research center (AlexMed) at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. The event aims at organizing vibrant discussions focused on the Mediterranean legacy and its strength as a melting pot zone of exchanges and cultural interaction.
The first lecture, 9 May 2006, will be presented by Dr. Christian Bromberger, ethnologist from the University of Provence (France) and Dr. Mohamed Tozy, political anthropologist from the University of Hassan Ain Chock, Casablanca. The discussion will focus on “The Mediterranean among Cultures”, highlighting the Mediterranean as a system of complementary differences and a game of mirrors’ identity (on costumes, behavior, convictions) - the diversity of cultural dimensions as a homogenous multicultural, multi-ethnic space that is the Mediterranean.
