The Egyptian Figures in the 19th and 20th Centuries Encyclopedia

Alexandria, 11 May 2005—The first meeting of the Scientific and Drafting Committees of the project, "Egyptian Figures in the 19th and 20th Centuries Encyclopedia", will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), 12-13 May 2005.

The Encyclopedia, a project proposed by the BA Advisory Committees, aims to honor the Egyptians who contributed greatly to the different fields of culture and knowledge. The meeting will be held to initiate the project"s implementation and plan for its scientific content. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, announced that this project is in line with the BA’s aims to promote culture enrichment and preservation of heritage.

Many intellectuals and specialists are participating in the preparation of this Encyclopedia, including: Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina; Dr. Gaber Asfour, Secretary General, Egyptian Supreme Council of Culture; Dr. Salah Fadl, Professor of Arabic Literature and the BA Director’s Special Advisor; Dr. El Sayed Yassin, Professor of Political Sociology at the National Center for Sociology and Criminological Research; Dr. Ahmed Kamal Aboulmagd, Professor of Law, Cairo University, Egypt and member of the BA Board of Trustees; Mr. Mahmoud Amin El-Alem, a prominent scientist and political thinker; Dr. Mostafa El-Abbady, Professor of Greco-Roman History, Alexandria University; Dr. Hassan Naf’aa, Head, Political Science Department, Cairo University; as well as Dr. Younan Labib Rizk, Professor of History, Ain Shams University and Director of Al-Ahram Center for Historical Studies.
